Of course, basic users may not find this feature to be useful, but if you are a photographer or may be just someone who takes a lot of pictures, uploads them to Picasa and then shares with others, you might be curious about the stats like the number of people who view a particular photo, the places they come from etc. We will show you today how you can easily get those stats using Analytics with Picasa. This is a two-step process but is very easy at the same time.
Setting up a Google Analytics account
Step 1: If you don’t have an account at Google Analytics make sure you make one before you continue. If you already have an account skip to the next step. Step 2: Both, the returning and the new user, will have to make a tracking account with Analytics to track the visitors on your Picasa Web Albums. To create a new tracking account click on the gear icon on the right-hand side and click on Create New Account. Step 3: While filling up the account details use http://picasaweb.google.com for the Website’s URL. The rest of the details will depend upon your location and sharing preference. Step 4: Click on Next and copy the unique Google Analytics tracking code that will be provided to you. It will look something like this: UA-xxxxxxx. That’s all; there is nothing more you need to take care of as far as Analytics is concerned. Just click on Save Settings.
Adding the Details to Picasa Web Album
Step 1: Login to your Picasa Web Albums, click the gear icon and open Photo Settings. Step 2: In the General tab, look for the option that says Photo tracking and enable Track visits to my photos using Google Analytics. Step 3: Now, enter the Google Analytics tracking code you got in Step 4 while creating the Google Analytics tracking account and save your settings. That’s all and you can now see your Picasa Web Album visitor stats in your Google Analytics account. Note: It can take up to 24 hours before your tracking code is detected by Picasa. Don’t forget to share with us your experience on the all-new Analytics. Are you comfortable with the new makeover or the older version was better? We look forward to your comments.
