That’s the main question for which I seek an answer for myself. Of course, there will be some new maps and weapons to play around with. That happens with any new game. What else it has to offer? Download PUBG Android Download PUBG iOS Download Call of Duty Mobile Android Download Call of Duty Mobile iOS Let’s begin.
1. Graphics
The graphics performance largely depends on the hardware that your smartphone packs. For this guide, I am going to use the same smartphone for testing both PUBG (version 0.14.0) and Call of Duty Mobile (version 1.0.8), which is Mi Note 5 Pro. The Call of Duty Mobile provides better and much detailed maps. In the game, when you are entering houses or overcoming obstacles, it feels much closer to the real world. Call of Duty Mobile always took inspiration from World War settings and storylines, and graphics play a large part in making players believe they are part of a critical mission. PUBG has done a great job at world-building, and it’s amazing. However, Call of Duty Mobile wins this round. We also tested both the games on Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus and here are the results. Here PUBG provides smooth experience in HD graphics and High frame rate. No shadows and trees look like paintings here. Choosing Smooth renders better graphics with more details in structures. Continuing to CoD Mobile, you get several graphics and frame rate options to choose from. Here is the default that the game picked automatically. The graphics are set to high. In my experience, letting the game pick the option on your smartphone configuration is a safe bet. As far as performance is concerned, even a budget Note 5 Pro handled both the games well, albeit with some compromise on graphics. There were no lags, and CoD Mobile had better graphics on both budget and high-end smartphones. Increasing frame rate and graphics will hurt the gaming experience with visible lags. That ruins the gaming experience altogether.
2.GamePlay
PUBG and Call of Duty Mobile provide the same control layout with options for plenty of customizations. One key difference is that in Call of Duty Mobile, you can choose to shoot bullets automatically when you point the crosshair at the target. That’s way too easy and not at all fun but newbie-friendly. Bullets fly differently in both PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile. In PUBG, you can use any weapon and hit targets from a distance — that neither works in the real world nor Call of Duty Mobile. In the latter, you will need a sniper to hit long-range targets. Otherwise, the bullets will drop before it reaches. You can use a gun like UZI or UMP9 to hit targets over 500 meters away in PUBG, though. In short, guns and bullets you fire through them have a range, and you have to keep that in mind. Makes the GamePlay realistic and tougher. This feature will be more apparent in the battle royal mode. Other modes have maps too small to have any effect on bullet range. Shooting from the hip will prove to be a deathly mistake in Call of Duty Mobile. You need a compensator. While PUBG also has that option, it is not required that much when you are firing at a short-range. You can even set how your avatar will hold different weapons in Call of Duty Mobile, like aim down for snipers while hip grip for shotguns. Call of Duty Mobile has way more options to customize how you play under different scenarios.
3. Game Modes
Starting with PUBG, there is the battle royale, which is the most popular format. About 100 players will parachute on an island and scrap what they can find, four maps to choose from, and battle it out for survival. There is an EvoGround map for zombie lovers. And then there is an Arcade mode where the number drops to 28 players. The maps are also smaller, and weapons are limited. No time to loot. Intense and fast. Inside Arcade, there is a War mode where again, 100 players land but in a confined area. It’s annoying when you jump from the plane every time you spawn. In Call of Duty Mobile, there is Multiplayer and Battleground. In Multiplayer, Frontline and Deathmatch are team matches where you play in a small map in a 5 against 5 setting. The only difference is that in the latter, you don’t respawn. Two new modes are Domination and Search & Destroy. In Domination, you will need to capture key points on the map. In Search and Destroy, you need to detonate a location on the map or kill all your opponents. You can also call airstrike to drop bombs on your opponents if you have enough pull — that means level and points.
4. Throwback
Call of Duty Mobile has a lot of throwback memories. For example, iconic characters like John Price, Dave Mason, and Ghost have returned. You can choose your favorite hero. Popular maps like Tunisia and Firing Range have also made a comeback. And finally, game modes like Search and Destroy and Domination is everybody’s favorite. There is a lot of fan service, and Activision had a lot of time to study their competitors and tap into their rich history before coming up with a winning formula.
5. Battleground
Probably the most popular format right now on the mobile gaming scene. The controls remain the same, but in Call of Duty Mobile, you can change your perspective from FPP to TPP on the fly. Each member of the team gets to choose a special power known as Skill. You can be Medic to heal other players, Ninja with stealth moves, Mechanic with AR and drones, and Defender to enforce a shield to protect the team during heavy fire. That gives everyone a unique personality and allows for more meaningful and deeper gameplay. PUBG doesn’t have these features, but you can play together as a team. There are no special roles and no team leader who makes the call. Anyone can be a medic depending on the situation and items in your bag. However, you don’t have special skills. Vehicles in Cod Mobile are more military-themed while in PUBG, you can take a scooter, buggy, military jeep, or even a tractor for a run. A more light-hearted approach, in my opinion.
Judgement Day
PUBG Mobile is an excellent battle royale game, but Call of Duty Mobile offers improved graphics and fun. The visual effects and textures are rich, the maps are detailed, the gameplay is more realistic, and the characters are iconic and have more personality in them. No wonder I found about half of friends on it on the very first day. Next up: Looking for more games? Probably something lighter? Here are 10 HD games under 100MB for Android smartphone users.
